There is no theme, you can write anything you like. There is no minimum word count, the maximum is 3,000 words. You can enter as many times as you wish but only one entry per entrant can win a prize. Every entry must be accompanied by the appropriate payment.

SCOTTISH ARTS CLUB SHORT STORY COMPETITION

The competition is open to all writers worldwide aged over 16 years, published and unpublished. Stories entered for the competition should be 1,500 words or less and can be on any topic. The stories do not have to be associated with Scotland. Competition entries must not have been previously broadcast on radio, read aloud as part of a commercial performance or published in any format, including on a web site that is open to the public.

 

The Short Fiction Prize

Stories must be no longer than 6,000 words and must be unpublished in print or online. All entries will also be considered for general publication. Stories may be in any theme or genre and you can submit as many times as you like. Online entries only. Stories will be read anonymously up to the longlist stage, which will be announced in June, the shortlist in July. The winner and runner-up will be announced in August. (Award will be recalled if a winning poem is found to be in violation of rules before publication in the NFSPS anthology of prize poems, and lower prizes and honorable mentions will move up in classification); be written in English, be titled, unless a haiku; have a 40 line limit for all contests not stating the line limit;

be typed or computer generated (not handwritten or hand printed) without illustrations.
